Long Arm Machines

I have spent the last few nights researching long arm machines.  There is way too much too learn and I feel like I haven't found out anything new.  So, do you own a long arm?  What do you have?  Pros?  Cons?  What do you wish you would have asked for known about before you made your decision?

Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild

Last Thursday was the first meeting since I joined the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild.  What an amazing group of women!  Just look at these babies:
I've never felt like making a black and white quilt...now I do.

This pattern really shows off all of the cute fabric.

Gorgeous!  I know I am not careful enough to cut out triangles like these.

Would you call these wonky flowers?  I love them!  And the pieced border too!

Hexi-table runner.  Too cute!  I need to ask Rachel what type of fabric she used again.  It was some type of wool/felt.  Very nice.

I love all of these colors together.

Pure lemonade.  The little fussy cut dogs are to die for.  Why, oh why don't I have any of that fabric?

More lemonade, this one by Leigh.  Seems like everyone is ready for Spring!

After everyone showed their newest projects, we learned how to paper piece hexagons.  Who knew it was so easy?  I have been seeing them everywhere, but, as usual, was afraid to try them.  Now I can't get enough.  Like I need another project....  I now need something to keep all my hexagon supplies in.  I'm thinking some sort of makeup/travel bag.  Or maybe a cool lunch box or extra large tin.  Any suggestions?  I need room for my scissors, thread, papers, pencil, and hexis.
Almost forgot.... dessert.  Mint Chocolate Girl Scout Cookie Cupcakes.  YUM!

Potholder Swap 2

Usually my mail contains bills, and....well........... it is always bills.  I did get my census form to fill out last week but I can't say that I found it very exciting.

Anywho, guess what was in my mailbox today?

Diane sent my pot holders for the Pot Holder Pass 2.  And extra treats!  Score!  LOL

They are both so cute!  I am loving the strawberry fabric.  It just looks so yummy!  Thanks so much Diane!

Are you in?

Late Night

Saturday I went to the late sew at Material Girls.  What a blast!  Everyone had amazing projects for me to drool over.  The one drawback (at least as far as my husband may be concerned) is that I had access to a whole store of fabric as I was sewing.  Don't like the green you've brought?  No problem, just run and get something different.  This may be why I currently have an entire quilt's worth of scraps left over.  Here's what I worked on:

This was my first time using minky.  Someone at the late sew advised me to use my walking foot while piecing the minky and I am glad I did!  It helped a lot but I still had to pin.  I hate pinning.
I mentioned before that I have tons of scraps left over.  So I am torn.  Should I add a pieced border and make it a lap quilt or leave it as a crib sized quilt?

Oh, if you don't know, the fabric is Rainy Days and Mondays from Riley Blake.

Busy but productive week

It has been an insanely busy week this week.  Usually I am online several times a day, which makes posting on a regular basis a breeze.  Not so this week.  Things have just been piling up and I also started a new temp job.  Anyway, here's a taste of what I've been up to this week:

New Projects and Winners

I ran over to my LQS today to pick up my block of the month for this:

It is the first month and we are doing it in this color scheme:

How cute!  I also picked up some goodies, but I'll have to wait until tomorrow to show you!  I went in early to get mine before they ran out!

Today is going to be busy.  I got my BOM and the block for the Jelly Roll Quilt Along was released today.  I can't wait to get started on this one.  I am using a Hello Betty jelly roll simply because I have it and it needs to be used.

And now, the winners:

Winner of the Moda Charm Pack:

  Liz Schaffner!!!!!

Winner of the Moda Petit Fours:

  Pokey!!!!

Congrats ladies!  Please send me your information and I will get these posted to you a.s.a.p.!

And again, a big thank you to everyone!  You guys made my first week on Blogger amazing!  I appreciate all of the support and the chance to see so many of the wonderful things you are all working on.  What an amazing community!

My little domestic diva

Lorelei went to her first quilt guild meeting for kids last month.  The members range from ages 6-16.  The woman who runs it, Roxie, is amazing with the kids.  And generous.  What a fabulous thing for our little girls to be able to do.  At last month's meeting, the girls learned to make yo-yos and will be doing something with them in March.  Lorelei is threatening to use up all of my stash making yo-yos now.  Any new member were also given the assignment of making themselves a name tag by the next meeting.
