Way-back Wednesday

Some days just make you feel nostalgic.  Yesterday my husband called me when he was outside of Rock Springs, Wyoming and said he had just passed this:

Well, it wasn't this particular wiener mobile, but he did pass one.  He said the thing was huge.  Is it a bit immature of me to be ever so slightly jealous?  Anywho...it seems to be headed our way and I was hoping to find out some information online.  No luck yet but I haven't given up.  I thought it would be something fun for the kids to see.  And then I started to wonder if my kids would have any clue what it was.

Maybe, it is like this phone:

Eli somehow knows exactly what it is.  I find this puzzling.  He has NEVER seen an actual phone with a rotary dial.  Or a cord for that matter.  Even the handset shape is completely foreign to my kids.  How do they know?

And then there is this:

Lorelei saw one in a shop the other day and told me it almost looks like a sewing machine.  ALMOST.  I've obviously been neglecting some of my duties to educate my child!

At least neither one of them will EVER have to know what this is:

Alas, I am not so lucky.

One of my friend's daughters spent a year on the road driving one of those Weinermobiles! She said it was the best time ever. :o) If there was one thing I could have had, it would be my Grandma's rotary phone. And, I want that Featherweight! You can have the t-shirt clip...been there, done that. ;o) Thanks for sharing a great post full of memories! Happy Wednesday! :o)

When we were on a band trip in Montreal in high school, somehow the whole group stumbled upon a wienermobile. You're never too old to sing in front of one. Never.

Hi Jandi,
First time to your blog and it is great! This is the first time I have seen a fellow quilter from Utah which is very exciting. OMG to work in a quilt shop all day, how do you not go crazy buying all the fabric? :)
I will be reading your blog often and to answer your question I haven't picked just the right machine yet this is a VERY big decision...lol.

Have you seen Toy Story 3 yet? The phone plays an important part in it.

Love the Weinermobile!!!! Our son tried to rent it for his wedding several years ago, but it wasn't available that day. Wouldn't that have been a kick? We see it around here periodically.

please tell me t-shirt clips aren't coming back! oh the horror! But then again skinny jeans are in and aren't those basically tapered leg jeans? I'm not jumping on the skinny leg jeans band wagon!

LOL - i thought the same about the rotary phone! And that was before my son saw Toy Story! Ah the memories!

At least he is a boy and won't have to experience the horrors of leg warmers & banana clips

The Oscar Meyer Weinermobile resides at Oscar Meyer Foods(now owned by Kraft)in Madison, WI. This summer I saw not one, but three in a row driving on I-90 toward Madison. :)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! My father and brother are obsessed with the Wiener Mobile (must be a guy thing) and and dying to drive it across the country.

That last photo (of those funny things we used to put on our t-shirts) made me laugh! I'd totally forgotten about those. I hope that was a photo of you ;). If you want a trip down memory lane, do a search on ebay for vintage toys - the waves of nostalgia are overwhelming.

I am JEALOUS! I've always wanted to see the Weinermobile! Well, maybe someday - now that I'm out of the sticks of Maine! And the phone - my Mom still has mine - my kids have played with it! AND - the shirt ring - I remembered those too - except I was always too chubby to get the "great" look of the bunched up shirt!LOL!
