No more chocolate milk

Eli, my two year old, and I are home by ourselves today.  We both have had colds for a little over a week but mine kicked my butt yesterday and is still keeping me down today.  Hence, we aren't at church and I am trying to rest.  What's the easiest way to keep a toddler quiet and happy?  Why, junk food of course!  So I put him in his high chair with a glass of chocolate milk and a donut (Krispy Kreme, brought over warm last night by my favorite person) and went to check email.  This is what I got five minutes later:

Notice how proud of himself he is?  And that the donut hasn't even been touched yet?  Or the fact that I now have chocolate milk running down an entire wall?  Boys....

Anywho, I have printed out all of the comments for the giveaway and can only hope I will be forgiven for killing all of those trees!  What an amazing response.  And, despite there only being 454 comments it looks like there was really over 500 entries.  I am numbering them now.  A few people left one comment for multiple entries so I am trying to get it all worked out.  I have to say that I am shocked by the number of entries!  190+ followers my first week!  You are all wonderful and I am so thankful for your support.

Okay, the boy has just walked by again, and despite my cold I can not help but notice that he has a WMD in his diaper.  Time for me to go.  Check back tomorrow to see who won!

Spring Sewing Party

****Scroll down for Saturday updates****

I am so excited for the Spring Sewing Party tomorrow!  I have plenty of projects to work on and this seems like the perfect excuse!

UPDATE NO. 1:  Saturday 5 p.m.

I am working on my postage stamp quilt today.  Crazy amount of ironing.  Luckily, I am enjoying my new travel sized iron from Rowenta.  It is the perfect size for pressing all those little seams.

UPDATE NO. 2:  Saturday 6:30 p.m.

I drew these little elephants and appliqued that to this quilt top.  I just really wanted to make something with elephants on it!  The quilting is all done...now I just need to pick out some binding.  I wonder what I have enough scraps of....

Saturday is coming

Don't forget to sign up for my giveaway if you haven't already.  It closes Saturday night and winners will be announced on Monday.  Scroll down to learn how to enter.

Why do my kids' birthdays make me feel old?

Lorelei turns the ripe old age of 8 tomorrow.  She is very excited and has been bugging me to make her a white dress for her birthday.  Uh, no.  But I did make her a white, black, and yellow dress since I already had the fabric.  It was going to be a skirt for me but I suppose mommy has to make sacrifices sometimes.  I pulled the fabric from my stash, bought a bit of yellow tulle, and went to work this afternoon.  This dress took all of 90 minutes to cut and sew (thanks, in part, to using an old t-shirt).

That Alpine Group & Helping Hands for Haiti

Tonight I went to my quilting guild meeting.  Usually this consists of 50-70 members, show and tell, and a trunk show.  It was a bit different tonight.  A local retreat is in progress so our numbers were few.  Here are some of the great quilts:
A beautiful quilt from a Bunny Hill pattern (sorry it's a bit blurry)

a closer look....

I love the vines on this one...

Another beauty, this one in Kaffe Fassett

Amber doesn't look this blurry in real life.  I love the fabrics she chose for the flower wall hanging.

More gorgeousness by Amber.  I believe this is a Fig Tree pattern.

The back of Amber's quilt.  Fantastic quilting!

Cozy flannels...

Our friend from Riley Blake brought this little boy's dream...

And Janessa brought an adorable baby girl quilt.

After the show and tell portion of our evening, Kate from Helping Hands for Haiti spoke about her recent trip to Haiti.  Her group helps rehabilitate Haitians with disabilities by providing medical care, therapy, and much needed medical devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, and prosthetic limbs.  Her obvious love for these people was heart warming.  Our quilt guild has now donated about 50 quilts for Kate to take with her to Haiti.  Each person on her team is allowed to take 100 lbs. with them, so they are using these quilts to wrap medical supplies.  Because of the Haitian climate and these weight restrictions, none of the quilts have batting.

Janessa has a great post on her blog about Haiti, so if you have time, go check it out.  And if you would like to donate quilts, I would be happy to get you the information.  All quilts should be about crib sized and with no batting.  And of course, Helping Hands for Haiti is always thankful for financial donations.

Toilet Paper On My Shoe

When setting up my blog I used a new image editing software that I downloaded for free.  I don't have any fancy photoshopping skills so making my header was actually a pretty big deal for me (I know, pathetic).  Anyway, it took several attempts before I finally (thought) I got it right.  Why isn't there spell check on the image editor???  Thankfully, Sandi noticed the problem and pointed it out.  Thank you so much Sandi!  How embarrassing!  Sandi, I added an email option to my profile.  Please email me your information so I can send you a special treat!

New Blog Giveaway

**************Contest is Closed************* Winners announced Monday

I have been contemplating moving my blog from Wordpress to Blogger for months now and finally decided to make the change this weekend.  I've been wanting to make some changes to my blog that I couldn't do with Wordpress.  Now that the change is in effect, no one knows where to find me!  So I figured a giveaway was a great way to get the word out.  So there will be (at least, let's see how many entries I actually get) two prizes:

Entry one:  Leave a comment
Entry two: Become a follower and leave a comment with "follower"
Entry three: Blog about it and leave a comment "blogged" & your blog address

Seems pretty straight forward, right?

Winners will be selected by a random number generator and announced next week.

Friday Night Sew-in

I had been very excited about the Friday Night Sew-In (any excuse, right?) but I almost didn't make it!  My husband was playing a benefit for Haiti tonight, which left me free to spend the entire night in front of my machine without guilt.  I tucked the kids in bed, put on my favorite pjs, and started laying out the supplies.  And then the baby was crying.  Fresh diaper and I'm back to sewing.  Then the baby woke up again.  Grrrr.... doesn't he know mommy wants to sew?  So we end up watching television until he falls asleep.  I repeated this process a total of four times.  But somehow I actually managed to get a bit done.  The two holiday wall hangings I started from scratch and now they just need to be quilted.  The flower wall hanging was already pieced but I finished most of the needle turn applique.  I can't believe how much I actually got accomplished.  And now I have two more projects crossed off my list and can buy more guilt free!
